Esports
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports serves as an important community through which Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students may engage in competitive gaming at the national level as well as casual gaming with the local community. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports participates in the top organized competitions every year for a variety of esports titles, including Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and more. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports has won six National Championships at the junior college level (NJCAAE) and has received a congratulatory letter from the Governor of Virginia for the program’s history of success.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports Learning Objectives
Through the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports program, students will be able to:
- Recognize the major organizations which determine the standards and modes of competition for esports at the collegiate level, as well as participate in such organized competition.
- Be able to assess the resources provided to the student through Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports, as well as engage in a supportive social environment in which they are comfortable and safe in the sharing of their passions.
- Demonstrate effective time management capabilities, balancing academic success alongside the opportunity to compete in the national collegiate esports space.
- Analyze and differentiate the degree to which the student’s personal skills in gaming have improved before and after joining the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports program.
- Identify important professional development habits, such as teamwork, personal accountability, and job interviewing strategies, which contribute to the future success of the student.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports Program Goals
The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Esports program annually seeks to:
- Provide an inclusive, safe, and respectful environment for all Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students to engage in the passion and/or hobby of gaming and esports.
- Provide opportunities for students to compete at the highest level, nationally of the collegiate esports space.
- Create support and opportunities in the development of students, including the areas of time management, social health, and professional development.
- Perform at the highest level possible to provide Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ with a sense of pride through achievement and national recognition.
- Manage a large, growing community of enthusiasts while maintaining positive connections even beyond a student’s time at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.
